Play one of Louis Armstrong’s jazz pieces.  While it’s playing, children will draw a picture of how the music makes them feel.  Once the music ends, the children may share.  Or have each write about his/her illustration.

Ask the middle school, junior high, or high school band director to bring several instruments usually in a jazz band to your library/classroom.

If possible, arrange for a jazz band to visit and perform.
